I have seen some quite extreme cases of malnourishment, neglect, and abuse, and it’s never quite easy to think about what happened to these poor dogs.
Such problems will lead them down a path where they will end up distrusting other humans and have a hard time recovering.
The rescuers will do their best to help their dogs get back on track and lead a somewhat normal life, but it’s not always easy.
In this story, we will talk about a dog who looked really old after being neglected for so long by his previous owners.
Grommett Was In A Lot Of Pain
When Grommett was first found by the local Animal Control officers in Florida, they were shocked by his appearance.
He was quickly transferred to the local Animal Control facility, where they would figure out what the next step was in helping him.
The animal control officers had decided to move Grommett to the Humane Society of Broward County.
He had so many injuries and medical issues that needed addressing, as the state he was brought in was tragic.
I just can’t really understand how someone can be so cruel and neglect a dog to the point where he looked like this. It’s just unfathomable.
In a video posted by the shelter, we can truly see just how much he was suffering when he was brought there.
A Road To A New And Better Life
The rescuers didn’t have much information on what happened to him before they saved him, but there was strong evidence that he was in a cage for most of his life.
Susan Leonti, who works for the shelter, told Newsweek: “Grommett arrived severely emaciated with signs of neglect throughout his body, including overgrown nails and scalding on his legs and feet from standing in his own urine.”
These issues were seriously bothering him, but it was nothing that the veterinarians there couldn’t handle themselves.
In the care of the Humane Society of Broward County, they will make sure that this sweet dog recovers and that he learns how to live a normal life.
After the veterinarians helped him deal with some of his most pressing health problems, he was transferred to a medical foster in Florida, where someone would look after him.
While there, Grommett is already making amazing progress and is beginning his healing journey.
While he will likely still stay in the care of his rescuers for some time, he will eventually be placed on an adoption list where he can finally find a family who will care for him.
In the end, Leonti ended by commenting: “Our hope is that viewers will see the importance in supporting their local animal shelter and in adopting their next pet.”
