Losing your dog is one of the most heartbreaking things that can happen to a person, but having somebody steal your beloved furry companion is just heartwrenching.
It’s different from your regular instances of a missing dog because you know there is a big chance you will never see him again, and it’s just a terrible thing.
For this story, we will talk about a dog who was stolen from a family and was missing for two whole years before something changed.
Cali’s Backstory
When Cali was first adopted by her family, she was living her best life. They just loved everything about her, and she got along with everyone.
Everything was going well for the family until one day, something terrible happened. Somebody stole Cali from the back yard of her home in Long Island, and she went missing.
The family was absolutely devastated, and they did their best to find her, but to no avail. The situation was dire.
Two years went by, and suddenly, a rescue organization called Broken Promises Sanctuary heard about a malnourished dog who needed help. It was Cali, but nobody knew it at the time.
She was found at a random gas station in New Jersey, and they saw that she was barely moving. The people working there actually took good care of her until the rescuers came.
A young Navy recruit, Alexandra Salomon, took her to the Broken Promises Sanctuary where they worked tirelessly to save her life, as she was very weak.
Very Sad News
After a long and difficult process, she was finally out of the woods and could relax for a little bit. The veterinarians scanned her for a microchip, and they found one.
They tried reaching the owners, but it took a while, as no one was responding at first. After a while, Brittney diBartolo answered the call and they told her that they found her dog.
She was overjoyed to hear this, so she and her family wanted to see her. However, she was too weak and the veterinarians quickly found out that she had a tumor.
It was absolutely horrible news, but there was no losing hope. They were told to start a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost.
In June of 2023, they managed to raise $8,000 and started treating her. After some time, she was a bit better and was ready to see her family again.
And, the reunion was something truly beautiful. The whole family was just so happy to have Cali back in their life.
However, as fate would have it, her illness would take a turn for the worse. She spent a few wonderful months with her wonderful family before her body gave up.Cali crossed the rainbow bridge and is now in a better place. Even though her family will miss her, they will never forget the precious moments they had together.
