One day, my child told me about a kitten crying from inside a trash bin. Curious and concerned, I went to check and found a heartbreaking scene: a tiny kitten stuck on a glue trap, unable to move. Its cries were weak and full of pain, and I wasn’t sure if someone had trapped it deliberately or if it had gotten stuck while searching for food. Either way, the poor creature looked so pitiful.
I immediately set to work trying to free the kitten. The glue was incredibly strong—even chopsticks broke as I tried to pry it loose. I had to be careful not to hurt it further, so I replaced the plastic piece and used my hands to pull it off the sticky trap. After a long struggle, the kitten was finally free, though exhausted and weak. I gently placed it in a cardboard box to prevent any remaining glue from getting into its eyes.
Once home, I borrowed an iron cage and made a temporary nest for the kitten. It seemed like it hadn’t eaten in days, so I gave it some cat food. The little one devoured it eagerly, clearly starving. Despite everything it had been through, its spirits were still good. It even followed me around the house, seeking comfort and security.
The glue on its body was still a problem, so I used vegetable oil and wet wipes to remove it. The method worked well, softening the glue so it could be wiped away. The kitten, which I named “Nian Nian” (meaning “sticky” in Chinese), seemed to understand I was helping and didn’t resist at all. After three careful washes, its fur was clean again, and I dried it gently with a hairdryer. To keep it warm, my wife made a tiny sweater out of old socks, which Nian Nian wore without complaint.
Over the next few days, Nian Nian settled in beautifully. It became more playful and affectionate, always following me around the house. Its little belly grew rounder with regular meals, and its coat began to shine. Two weeks later, I took Nian Nian to the vet for vaccinations. It waited patiently for the injection, proving just how well-behaved and sensible it was. Watching its transformation was incredible—Nian Nian went from a weak, starving kitten to a chubby, happy pet with a bright future.
In just 20 days, Nian Nian had nearly doubled its weight, growing from 400g to 740g. Its once-pitiful appearance was replaced by the playful charm of a healthy, thriving kitten. Every moment we spent together filled me with pride and joy. The love and care we gave Nian Nian brought out its strength and vitality, proving how much a little kindness can change a life.
Looking at Nian Nian now, I’m grateful for the day we found each other. It’s no longer just a stray kitten—it’s a cherished member of our family. This journey reminds me that being loved can truly transform not only a life but also the hearts of those who give that love.
